Policewoman mauled by dog while on house call in a house in Plymouth, Devon

News has broken today of yet another vicious dog attack on a human.

  • The latest attack came as a policewoman and her colleague were walking up a path towards a house in Plymouth, Devon.

“A Policewoman is in hospital with severe arm and stomach injuries after she was mauled by an untied dog.

The officer and a colleague were walking up the outside path of a house in Plymouth, Devon, when the dog ran at them and sunk its teeth into her flesh.

The dog, believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier, only stopped its attack when the other officer fired a spray in its face.

A police spokesman said: “The officer has undergone a three-hour operation – which is said to have gone well.

“She is expected to be discharged from hospital later today.

“She is expected to be off work for some period of time.

“The dog has been seized by police and will undergo assessment to establish whether it is a banned breed.

“Police are considering an application for a destruction order of the dog.”

The dog was sedated by staff from Dartmoor Zoo and Estover Veterinary Hospital with help from dog-trained police officers.

A 33-year-old local woman was arrested on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control in a public place.

She was released on police bail until September 16.”
