About Milan

Milan is Italy’s most important city financially and the country’s second largest city. Milan is not as well known for it’s sights, but mainly for it’s fashion, fabulous shopping, opera and nightlife. However, it does have some fantastic sights to see and some of the architecture has the wow factor. Milan is the modern Italy. It’s a very sophisticated and stylish place with an upmarket entertainment scene. Great for food and the choice of bars and clubs are generally glitzy and expensive.
Milan seems to take gayness in its stride, and it’s not unusual to see gay or lesbian couples walking hand in hand, but you should go easy with the heavy petting in public places. Certainly if you decide to travel outwith the city, and visit the smaller towns, it would be wise to avoid showing too much affection, as many of these smaller places are often homophobic! However, there is a huge gay scene in Milan with various different clubs catering for every scene. The gay venues are not all in one area, they are dotted about the city. Tourists may find some venues closed or empty, but that is only because many of these venues follow fashion and may be open and very busy for one night only and closed for the rest of the week. It’s probably worth asking the locals before venturing out if you are heading to a specific place. We have listed mainly gay bars or clubs, and a couple of the most popular ‘straight’ venues. All hotels listed are gay-friendly. The restaurants listed are either gay-friendly with good food, or just there because the food is good.
