About Wellington

Wellington

Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand and home to the seat of Parliament. This vibrant and dynamic city offers a wealth of dining, entertainment and cultural attractions to suit any taste or budget. Being the first place that the European settlers arrived, it also boasts lots of historic streets and buildings. The Wellington region stretches from the Kapiti Coast, through Porirua and into Wellington City and then back north through the Hutt Valley and over the Rimutakas to Wairarapa.

Wellington has the second largest gay & lesbian population in New Zealand. The gay scene here blends in with the arts, restaurants and theatre community making the city truely cosmopolitan. There is not a gaybourhood as such, there is not even that many exclusively gay venues, but the city on a whole is very tolerant and open minded, so most places are gay-friendly. The hotels are all gay-friendly, with 2 which exclusively cater for either gay men or lesbians. The few gay venues there are, we’ve listed, along with a few gay-friendly ones. The restaurants, except one, are not listed as gay-friendly, but you should not encounter problems dining here.
