About Delhi

Delhi

India’s sprawling capital city has been re-invented at least 7 times. What you get now is not as daunting as you might expect. In fact, it’s pretty straightforward to navigate. The best of the bars and the restaurants are still in the International hotels.

Several bars in New Delhi and now hold gay nights, though they are not often publicized for fear of attacks. So dont expect rainbow flags to be proudly displayed outside. You won’t find gay bars, bath houses, and other exclusively gay establishments. Gay events are specially scheduled from time to time, though. Talk to local gays about what is coming up and how to get there. Or check out the gay website for all up and coming events and part nights. www.gaybombay.org

It is not uncommon to see men walk hand in hand in the city, some even resting their heads on the others shoulders. Never assume that they are gay – Indians are a very physical people. Holding your partner’s hand on the street may not raise an eyebrow, but public displays of affection are a strict No! Indians are still conservative, and even a kiss between a man and and a woman on the street is likely to be frowned upon.

On June 27 2009, homosexuality was decrimalised in India.
